Portal House is a school for pupils with significant behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. The extensive development includes the refurbishment of the original school building, along with a new three-storey teaching block and sports hall, set within a new landscaped master plan.
The double-pitched roof concept for the new building draws on the local Kent vernacular, and the use of humble, traditional materials with simple, modern detailing gives the building a quiet yet distinct contemporary identity.
Internal and external spaces provide learning environments that are modest and simple but inspiring, subtly reinforcing the school’s underlying philosophy of caring and nurturing whilst maintaining appropriate levels of passive supervision.
We work across a diverse range of projects and take pride in consistently delivering through collaboration, learning from and supporting one another to achieve the best outcomes.
“I am delighted with the new building and the children think it is brilliant. The facilities are fantastic and it’s fit for purpose, so we are very pleased.”
